Hi, I am Jordan Shomaker
I have worked as a School Counselor for the past few years but found myself drawn to help people on a deeper, more personal level. I am experienced in working with teens, young adults, and women. I use mindfulness, narrative therapy, and CBT or DBT skills to help people heal and live more balanced lives. I am a creative thinker who incorporates art, music, humor, animals, and nature in my work with other people.
I am eager to meet all people in their healing journeys but I am experienced in working with children, teens, young adults, and women. I have extensive training in College & Career counseling and I am currently working on completing a certification in Animal Assisted Psychotherapy. I am influenced by my belief in the healing benefits of animals, so don’t be surprised if animals are sometimes included in our work together! We can also explore trauma work, holistic healing, inner child work, mindfulness, CBT, or DBT together.
As a creative thinker, I am drawn to any chance to use our imaginations to help us heal and focus on the strengths of the individual. I am inspired by many forms of art and creating when working with other people and encourage clients to write, draw, dance, compose, or create in their self-care practices. I am open to many ways of living and transitioning in life, and consider myself a lifelong learner. I love to help people find and express their authentic voice through writing and narrative therapy.
I aim to create a space where people can be themselves and express whatever is in their heart by offering a safe, supportive, and trusting therapeutic relationship. I am honored to meet people where they are at and look forward to beginning a journey of healing with you.
